Bible Journaling My Prayers: How Bible Journaling Changed Prayer Life

Prayer is such an important part of our walk with God. It is one of the ways that we can communicate with Him. Ephesians 6:18 says that we should pray in the Spirit at all times with all sorts of requests. This means that we can bring everything before Him in prayer. Our joys and happiness and our sorrows and laments.

So what does prayer have to do with bible journaling?

Well, to begin with, it’s important to be in prayer as you are reading and keeping your heart open to what God is teaching you. Bible journaling and prayer go hand-in-hand, it’s an essential component, the pretty pages that you end up with are just an added bonus.

Last summer I stumbled upon a list of 20 verses to pray over your marriage. I’ve had the list sitting on my side table since then and really struggled to actually make it through the list. I don’t remember how exactly, but the thought crossed my mind that I should journal each verse! This instantly made it more enjoyable.

(Now I know that prayer is important, I mean, I said it’s essential right? But sometimes it can be hard to get in the habit of actually following through on what you believe to be true. I think that finding ways for something to be more enjoyable can help you on your way to starting good daily habits.)

I had discovered an engaging way of actually getting into the verses to pray over my marriage! Now I found myself actually wanting to sit down and pray about them. In doing so, words and phrases began to stick out to me and those are the ones I recorded on my pages. I also started writing portions of my prayers right on the pages. Bible journaling my prayers has become a regular part of my journaling experience.

This simple thing has changed my prayer life immensely! I don’t know about anyone else, but I love going back and reading the notes and prayers I’ve written. Writing my prayers  down on the page I am reminded of them and will often pray them again. This has helped me to be a lot more engaged in my prayer life.

If you struggle with your prayer life as I do, maybe journaling some of your prayers in the pages of your bible can help you engage with God. A good place to start might be finding scriptures about prayer to journal. Ask God to help you devote more time to prayer and record those prayers right there on the pages.

Bible journaling my prayers has made my prayer life so much richer! I hope that doing this simple thing can help you as well!
