Prayer to Pentecost 2020

Hi Friends! Scripture tells us that through Jesus and the Holy Spirit we are able to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Heb. 4:16)

Over the past weeks I have felt a more pressing need and desire to pray with other believers over the state of our world. On May 31st, 2020 the Church celebrates Pentecost, the giving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2). This is a pivotal part of Christian history that sometimes gets looked over in the Christian calendar. But what an important day when we were bestowed with the Holy Spirit that gave believers power to perform miracles, to fight spiritual battles and spread the truth of Christ’s redeeming love. On the Jewish calendar Pentecost correlates with the festival of Weeks, or Shavuot, which also marked the time that the Torah was given on Mount Sinai. Both dates signify a time when God revealed himself to his people in powerful and wonderful ways. What an important day to celebrate and be reminded of.

Over the next week, I would like to invite you to join me in tapping into the Holy Spirit we have been given and pray for some specific things leading up to Pentecost. As our world faces ever increasing turmoil, division, and fear, I want to ask God to reveal himself to us in a powerful way; a way that is clear to his people and a way that helps us accomplish his will for us. Many in the Church have been praying for revival, and I want to join in that prayer.

Over the next seven days there will be a topic of prayer accompanied with scriptures to read and pray over as well. Each day will include the same two scriptures to pray before beginning because we know that we are in a spiritual battle and we must prepare our hearts and minds as we enter the battlefield each day. Then each day will also include more scriptures that relate to the daily topic. It will be a commitment to read them all and to spend time in prayer, but I believe the Lord will bless us as we give these things to him. I believe it will be more than worth the time and effort it takes.

Please feel free to share this invitation to prayer with other believers. If you find out about this part way through the week – don’t let that stop you from joining. We know the Lord is with us, so who can be against us?!

I have created a free PDF with the daily prayer prompts you can access by clicking here. You can even print it out if you prefer to have it handy or just use your phone to review the daily prompts. Or you prefer, scroll down to see the prayer prompts in photo form (although the quality may be worse than the PDF)… just want to give you options!

Thank you for joining me in this week of prayer. Please bear with me as a felt the Spirit’s leading to share this, but only had a short time to put it all together. I’m confident that the Lord will remain faithful in spite of my errors or flaws.

Your Sister in Christ,

Leah
