Craft Room Before & After

Hi Friends! Whew! I’m taking a minute to just breathe because life has been intense lately and it’s not about to let up. As much as I love Summer it tends to be a busy time for us. I think I mentioned before that we were moving, and now we are in our new home, trying to settle in. It’s taking longer than I’d like but, hey, that’s life. So today I wanted to bring you some before and after photos of my designated craft room.

I’ll also take a minute to be 100% honest with you. This is not a Pinterest perfect craft room. As much as I would love that, there are a few hindrances. 1) Budget and 2) Functionality. I’m one of those out of sight out of mind people, so all too often if something gets put in a drawer or behind a cupboard door, I forget I have it and don’t put it to good use.

I also had a goal of getting it together for this blog, and I was sorely tempted to come up with something else for this week because it wasn’t “done.” I had to take another reality check to remember that when it comes to decorating and organizing, it’s never done. There are always things I want to change, upgrade, etc. So if I put it off, it would never have happened.

With all of that said here’s what we’ve got:

We started by giving it a good coat of paint. Turns out that Dove White (in spite of what the swatch looks like) isn’t white, actually a very pale blue. It’s cool. I can roll with the punches.

There were two things I wanted with this craft room that I hadn’t had in my previous one: ample light, and a cozy place to just read my Bible or work on my computer.

For light I made sure to put my table in front of the window, and I commandeered my husband’s filming lights (those big boxy things) that we hasn’t been using. Light sources from all around, great for daytime or nighttime creating. For the nook, I put a comfy chair  with a few pillows.

Again, I’m all about functionality, and I like to have my supplies visible and easily accessible. I hung my washi tape embroidery hoops, placed my favorite pens, paints, ribbons, and printables within reach and other commonly used supplies near by as well.

Overall, it’s a work in progress, but I’m really happy with the current set-up. I’m sure there will be a follow up blog with more changes in the future. I definitely want to add more decor and organization type things.
