3 Ways To Add Texture

Happy weekend y’all!

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind for me and my family. Moving with small children is no joke! We moved two weeks ago, so we’re just starting to get settled in. I now have my own craft room (YAY!) but it’s not quite put together yet. It’s weird to have my own space for all my art supplies. I’ve been stuffed into a corner of my bedroom for so long, I don’t know that to do with all the space! I will figure it out soon enough. When I do, maybe I’ll give you a little tour.

Until then, I wanted to talk about adding some texture to your journaling pages. If you follow us on Instagram, you know we love to add a pop of color to our pages. But I’ve recently tried some new techniques to add color and make it look a little more texture-y.

Three ways to easily add texture to your page:

#1 Tissue/Napkin

This one is super easy! You simply take a tissue or napkin and crumple it up. Once it’s crumpled, choose a side that has lots of character. Dab the paint bottle or use a paint brush to get some paint on it and then dab it on your page where you want color. Usually the first dab is really saturated so sometimes I like to make the first dab on to a scrap piece of paper. This turns out different every time since you can never crumple it the same way twice!

#2 Bubble Wrap

If you have some old bubble wrap lying around you should definitely give this one a try! It’s pretty straight forward. Use a brush to put some paint on the bubble side and then press on to your page. So simple! Like the napkin, the first press is usually pretty saturated so sometimes I like to do the first one on scrap paper.

#3 Your Finger

If you have fingers, this one’s for you! All you have to do is squeeze a small drop of paint on to your finger and then swipe it on the page. Super simple! If you do it just right you can get some small globs that make some 3D texture. To do this, try not to use too much pressure while swipe. I find it helpful to practice a few times on scrap paper so I can get the pressure right.

Although I have been skipping this part in my journaling a lot lately, (thanks to tiny people in my house) I really love adding texture and color to my pages. It’s a fun, easy way to add some pop to whatever else your putting on your page.

Do you have any creative ways to add texture? I’m really curious to see some different ideas, so make sure to let us know in the comments!
